Rainbow Rice

I used glutinous (sticky) rice, as it's a lot whiter than standard varieties, but I'm sure anything'll work. I put the rice into baby food jars, added food colouring and hand sanitiser (as it evaporates) and we shook shook shook the jars until it was all mixed up. We wanted to use them right away, so I put them in a warm oven (100 deg C) for about 15 mins until they were dry. I'm sure you could also spread the rice out on multiple trays somewhere to dry.

For the pictures, I taped sticky clear bookcover film upside down on the table for Max to design his picture, and once finished, backed with heavy paper. FUN FUN FUN!

I also used the rice to make a shaker toy for Finn.

Food dropper colour mixing

This was our busy hands activity yesterday - mixing colours using food droppers. I got this idea from Itty Bitty Love and it worked out wonderfully.

I filled dropper bottles with diluted red, blue and yellow food colouring and laminated sheets with dots (made from paint colour charts) - one with three large circles (primary colours) and another with twelve (primary, secondary and tertiary colour wheel).

Max put 1 drop of matching colour on each dot, mixed with a toothpick and placed a paper towel on top. Voila! A spectrum of colours!
