Choo choo

We thought it might be nice to have a change from the usual road mat inside...

Deck Garden

So, because we need to move sometime in the not so distant future to make way for a motorway, I really don't have much motivation to put in a vege garden. I've always wanted one, but do question  where I'd actually find the time to maintain it. However I went to Bunnings a month or so ago and bought some tomato, tom thumb lettuce and rocket plants to grow outside the kitchen on the deck. It's so wonderful being able to step outside and pick the salad for dinner and to know it's not drenched in pesticides. My rocket has recently started growing like crazy, and since I'm the only one in the house who actually likes it, I have been giving it away to everyone I know.

Max planted his own strawberry plant and decorated the pot all by himself at R.'s house. He waters it diligently every day and is eagerly watching as the strawberries grow and start to turn red.

Diggers in the Snow

Yesterday morning's activity - cars and diggers in cornflour. Max played with it for ages before becoming bored. Then we added drops of food colouring to the cornflour, which added an extra 10 minutes playtime, before he thought it'd be fun to throw "snow" all over the deck and plants. Oh well, at least it rained last night and washed most of it away.

Happiness is ordered drawers...

I get such joy when I open the boys' drawers each time. I really like that I can see all tops at a glance and that they are ordered - bodysuits, long sleeve, short sleeve and play clothes. It appeals to my obsessive-compulsive side.

Wonder Max

Max's favourite programme du jour is The Wonder Pets. If you haven't seen it, it's about three classroom pets - a guinea pig, a turtle and a duckling. They fly around in their boat, wearing their "W" capes, saving baby animals in trouble, singing along the way: "What's going to work? Teamwork!" being the catchphrase. Each episode follows the same pattern, has supercute graphics and mostly uses a different style of music, depending on the location of the animal in trouble. I secretly quite like The Wonder Pets.

The second picture above is from the episode "The Wonder Pets Save the Beetles". They flew to Liverpool to rescue the Beetle band from their trapped "yellowish submarine", where they were singing "Kelp! We got tangled up in Kelp!". Obviously Max doesn't have a clue who the Beatles were, but it makes it quite entertaining for the parent who hears the shows in the background. There were episodes about the Hound Dog and the Rat Pack, to mention a couple.

So anyway, Max LOVES this programme, so much so, that I decided to surprise him with his own cape, so he can save the baby animals in trouble.

It was a huge hit - he spent the first 10 mins trying to see the M on the back and then ran around rescuing all manner of creatures.

The cape was really quick to make - no time to pull out the sewing machine today, so used PVA. Seems to be sticking well.
